The Green Knight

(October 28, Amazon Prime Video)

A Ghost Story and Pete’s Dragon director David Lowery’s latest effort is a fantasy retelling of the medieval story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The impressive acting ensemble includes Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie. ‘‘As intriguing as it is challenging, The Green Knight excels as a hallucinatory cinematic puzzle that will scramble your brain in the best possible way,’’ wrote Radio Times’ Ann Lee.

Colin in Black & White

(October 30, Netflix)

A Wrinkle in Time ’s Ava DuVernay teams up with controversial former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick for a six-episode drama that takes a look back at his formative years. Wonderstruck ’s Jaden Michael plays the teenage Kaepernick as he navigates the insecurities and complexities of growing up as a bi-racial child with adopted parents (Mary-Louise Parker and Nick Offerman) in a predominantly white Californian neighbourhood.

Two Weeks to Live (October 30, TVNZ OnDemand)

Maisie Williams stars in this six-part black comedy about a young Scottish woman who has been raised in almost total isolation by her overprotective survivalist mother (Sian Clifford). On her first excursion to the pub she encounters two brothers who decide to play a practical joke on her – one that sets her on a course to destroy the man who killed her father. ‘‘There’s comicbook brutality, snarky dialogue and a mordant sense of humour to the series,’’ wrote The Age’s Craig Mathieson.
