More cases as city reopens

Melbourne residents have been enjoying their first weekend out of the city’s sixth lockdown after Victoria reached vaccination targets, with people able to leave their home for any reason. The state registered 1750 new Covid-19 cases and nine deaths yesterday. Premier Daniel Andrews said the multiple lockdowns, which had contributed to Melbourne having the longest lockdown of any city in the world, were a thing of the past. New South Wales registered 332 new cases yesterday, as the state reported instances of Covid-19 transmission in bars and gyms. Meanwhile, travellers will be able to enter Tasmania from December 15, with the state expected to reach a vaccination rate of 90 per cent.
