Tyranny and freedom

Oh, the tyranny, of having one’s personal freedoms and choices limited by others – but so many everyday things we do are determined by social norms and outside authority.

One can only assume, for example, that when the Thames-Coromandel mayor leaves her driveway each day, she is presented with a choice whether to drive on the right or left-hand side of the road. While she might choose the left for her personal safety and safety of other roads users, her principles suggest she might equally choose the right.
