Continuing to yell into the void

Verity Johnson may not be ready to delete her social media accounts (Auckland’s scariest week, Oct 26), but I have already done it, and a small but growing number of people are doing the same. Indeed, an admission that may shock your readers, as a 21-year-old I do not even own a cellphone.

But Ms Johnson’s generation, and the generation that follows, need to escape from their sense of entitlement and narcissism.

In my honest opinion, most people do not have anything to say of any worth. Thus, on a media platform where the general public are both audience and content creator, the content is of absolutely no value. No wonder advertising costs online are relatively cheap.

The only reason to stay on social media is because you believe you are inherently right to continue yelling into a void where no-one listens and everyone else yells too.

At least content in letters to the editor is self-aware…
