Hydro scheme
John McCaskey (Letters, Oct 26) questions the ‘‘greenness’’ of wind farms versus hydro and extolling the ready abundance of Southern Alps-supplied water as an alternative to supply a hydro scheme.
Something that has always caught my attention is the natural basin of Lee’s Valley: virtually on the doorstep of Christchurch and, to my untrained engineering viewpoint, an area which looks to be easily dammed, in turn creating a huge recreational lake and source at the lake outlet of hydroelectricity.
I can imagine the only opponents of this proposal would be the folk who are resident in the valley. I’m sure they could be adequately catered for!
