Dodgers prove too strong for Matua Ma

A strong-finishing Dodgers proved too good for Matua Ma in the latest round of the women’s club competition at Colquhoun Park on Saturday.

Dodgers shot out to a 7-2 lead in the first two innings.

But in the third inning Matua Ma scored four runs to cut Dodgers’ lead to 7-6.

Dodgers pulled away in the next two innings, scoring seven more runs.

Matua Ma had no answer and when the time was up Dodgers won 14-6.

Pauline Seymour was Matua Ma’s top batter with two hits from three turns at bat.

For Dodgers, Sarah Belk had two hits from three turns at bat.

Huia Tigers had a big win over Cowgirls, 15-2 with the run-ahead rule invoked.

The Tigers piling on 15 runs in four innings and Cowgirls could only manage two.

Elizae Elliot of Cowgirls had two hits from two turns at bat.

Vicki Webber and Rowena Cooper were Huia’s best batters with three hits from four turns at bat.

In another one-sided game, Blue Sox beat Kingswood Anahera 10-3.

Eta Elkington was Kingswood’s top batter with two hits from three turns at bat.

Two Blue Sox batters shared the batting honours: Melanie Driescher and Nikki Tatana-Toro with two hits from two turns at bat.

Feilding Wahine defaulted to Bramac Aces and Linton Storm had the bye.

The first of the premier men’s mid-week games was under lights on Thursday night where Blue Sox came from behind to beat Huia Chiefs 9-2 on the run-ahead rule.

Huia got out to a good start, scoring two runs in the third inning.

Blue Sox did not score until the fourth innings, but with two down they strung four hits together and were aided by two walks scored six runs to lead 6-2.

The Chiefs didn’t score again, but Blue Sox scored three more in the fifth inning to go up 9-2 and the game ended.

Huia’s best batter was Logan Marsh with two hits from two turns at bat.

For Blue Sox Jason Kensington had three hits from four turns at bat.

In Saturday’s game, Blue Sox won a close game 6-4 against Linton Sentinels.

Blue Sox went ahead with four runs in the first three innings, but in the fourth inning, Linton put bat to ball and scored four runs to level the score 4-all at the bottom of the fourth.

Blue Sox score one run in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth to take an insurmountable lead 6-4. Campbell Ngarimu was Blue Sox’s best batter with two hits from three turns at bat.
