Manawatū-Whanganui rule on their home lawns

Manawatū-Whanganui came out on top at the lower North Island association croquet tournament.

The home region had the most wins at the Rose Gardens lawns during the weekend, competing against five of the six associations from across the lower North Island.

Also competing were South Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa and Wellington. The teams consist of players in four divisions based on their handicaps, who play the other four players in their division. The winning team is the one that wins the most games overall. The Manawatū-Whanganui of Josh Smith (Rose Gardens), Malcolm Hutchins (Whanganui), Pam Green (Rose Gardens) and Jeremy Neild (Rose Gardens) won the event with 11 games won Wairarapa and South Taranaki were tied on games won with 9 each, but Wairarapa finished second on the tie-break due to a better net hoops score.
