There are 178 new cases of Covid-19 in the Delta community outbreak, and a person aged in their 50s who had the virus has died. The Ministry of Health gave the update yesterday. The new cases span across six regions – Auckland (149), Waikato (16), Northland (2), Bay of Plenty (9), Lakes (1) and MidCentral (1). Eighty-two of yesterday’s cases have not yet been epidemiologically linked, while 9210 remain epidemiologically unlinked from the last 14 days. There are currently 77 people in hospital with the virus, and eight of these people are in ICU or HDU. The average age of hospitalisations is 46. Of those in hospital in the Northern region, 42 cases (60 per cent) were unvaccinated or not eligible, due to their age. The Covid-related death was a person in their late 50s who had been in Auckland City Hospital since November 5. It brought the number of deaths since the pandemic began to 42. It is not yet known whether the person was vaccinated.
