Biden to appoint black woman to supreme court

President Joe Biden has been handed the chance to fulfil his campaign promise to nominate a black woman to the US Supreme Court after a long-serving liberal justice decided to retire. Stephen Breyer, 83, will step down in June to the relief of Democrats who saw Donald Trump appoint three conservative justices as president, including a replacement for liberal standard bearer Ruth Bader Ginsburg when she died aged 87, having declined to retire under President Barack Obama.
