What to watch this week

– James Croot

Shane (January 25, Amazon Prime Video) Ian Botham, Sachin Tendulkar, Allan Border, Mark Taylor, Ed Sheeran and Chris Martin are just some of those who feature in this documentary on controversial former Australian cricketer Shane Warne. It aims to showcase the highs and lows of a career that featured world records, amazing performances and scandals involving both drugs and illegal betting. ‘‘He makes for an engaging enough subject as he holds forth on his exceptional cricketing career, making honest points about the top-class sportsperson’s ability to block out everything else when necessary, and the consequent damage it does to off-field relationships,’’ wrote The Guardian’s Andrew Pulver. ‘‘Merv Hughes, looking more than ever like a Viking chieftain waiting for his shield-bearer, comes up with some great lines, including comparing Warne to King Kong.’’

The Afterparty (January 28, Apple TV+) Tiffany Haddish, Ben Schwartz, Ilana Glazer and Dave Franco are part of the large ensemble gathered together for this eight-part comedic murder mystery. Centred around a high school reunion, each episode explores a different character’s account of the fateful evening and is portrayed in a distinctive visual and narrative style.

The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window

(January 28, Netflix)

Kristen Bell headlines this eight-part black comedy inspired, as the title suggests, by recent female-led thrillers. When a handsome neighbour moves in across the street, her heartbroken Anna begins to believe her fortunes may be changing. That is until she witnesses a gruesome murder – or did she?
