I know a place . . . Tu¯ ranga
CHRISTCHURCHNZ
If you thought libraries were dusty old relics where stern librarians hushed visitors, think again. Tu¯ ranga is Christchurch’s stylish library and the largest in the South Island.
As well as its extensive collection of the written word, digital, visual and audio collections, and art and Ma¯ori imagery, Tu¯ranga is an impressive piece of architecture, five storeys of light and bright floors inspired by the region, with input from Danish library design experts.
There are audio- and videoediting studios, and an enormous touch-screen wall that should satisfy even the hardest-to-please interactive fan. At night, the impressive building lights up Cathedral Square.
