Vegetation blaze

Residents near a 2-hectare vegetation fire at Trentham, Upper Hutt, were yesterday told to prepare to evacuate before Fire and Emergency staff brought the blaze under control. Three helicopters with monsoon buckets were brought in to support emergency services fighting the blaze at Evergreen Cres, Trentham. As a precaution, about 10 nearby properties were asked to prepare to evacuate if required. And in Taupo¯ , rest home residents were among those evacuated yesterday in response to a rapidly spreading scrub fire on Rickit St. Eight fire trucks and one helicopter were attending.
