Empty NP section sells for $1.6 million

One of New Plymouth’s best-known ‘‘empty’’ parcels of land has sold for $1.6 million. Real estate agent Leo Baas confirmed the 20 Lismore St section sold before it was due to go to auction. ‘‘I don’t think it’s a secret that the neighbours have bought the section,’’ Baas said. The site was sold little more than a year ago for $1.2 million, but the previous owner did not get the opportunity to build after he moved overseas. The section has breathtaking views out to the Tasman Sea and across a number of suburbs and the coastline up to Kawhia. It has a 2019 capital value of $840,000 and property records show the 878sqm section in Strandon has only sold once previously, for $196,874 in 2002.
