Award-winning Greytown home

An award-winning Greytown home, as stunning as its 200-year-old totara trees and views of the Tararua Ranges, is for sale for the first time since it was built in 2015.

The three-bedroom, twobathroom house, at 44 Monty’s Lane, Woodside, featured in NZ House and Garden magazine and won the residential category of the 2018 Wellington Architecture Awards.

Inside and out, it reflects the art-collecting interests of the owners, complete with a commissioned mural by Wellington artist Zoe Hall.

Said the judges: ‘‘This beautifully detailed house sits comfortably on its site and within its context thanks to the use of forms that reference rural buildings.

‘‘It is an exceptional backdrop to the client’s extensive collection of art, but the house also performs well in other significant ways.’’

The 296-square metre dwelling is exceptionally specified, with an energy-efficient design and a configuration that emphasises strikingly unique spaces rather than conventional open-plan living.

The flat 1.16711-hectare property also is a recreational haven, with its heated salt-water swimming pool and electric cover, separate studio/pool house (with bathroom), spa pool, gazebo and pétanque court.

Eye-catching cedar slats and Vitex wraparound decking distinguish the exterior of the single-level house, which has an extended Colorsteel gable roof to provide summer shade, but barely hint at the artistry behind the steel front door.

It opens into a foyer that leads into the living room, kitchen and sitting/dining room with their 5m-high exposed beams, recycled red brick walls, heated polished concrete flooring and extensive double-glazing to showcase the landscaped grounds and countryside.

The spectacular stainless steel kitchen includes a butler’s pantry with separate zones while the relaxing nook has a Corten steel wall above the gas fireplace.

The unusually large main bedroom suite is in a private wing and stands out for its extensive wardrobing and an ensuite where you can bathe in front of an internal garden with Zen-inspired fountain.

The other double-bedrooms are in separate wing with a full bathroom and the media room, which has 4m-high steel doors and the mural.

Other features include garaging for four cars, sundry sheds, and an orchard and vegetable gardens.

‘‘This is one of Greytown’s finest homes,’’ Jaime Slater, of Tremains Real Estate, says.

‘‘It’s meticulously presented with mesmerising views and affords a breathtaking lifestyle in a very desirable area.

‘‘Monty’s Lane is near the

Greytown Rail Trail and local river, three kilometres from the middle of town and two minutes’ drive from the train station.’’
