Man frees crash victims

A man who ripped a car door free to rescue three people involved in a serious crash says he was running on adrenaline. Taina Keelan,

23, rushed to the victims’ aid as a vehicle went up in flames following a two-car crash on State Highway 1, south of Foxton, last week. He was on his way to drop a friend in Levin when he came across the crash moments after it happened. When he saw three people, including two teenagers, still in one of the cars he pulled over and went to their aid. He found the driver awake and trapped in the front seat but when he tried to open the door it wouldn’t budge. ‘‘I just pulled it as hard as I could and managed to free it.’’ A MidCentral DHB spokesman said four patients were admitted to hospital following the incident, three had been discharged and one was still in hospital.
