‘No motive’ to kill
The man on trial for killing Elizabeth Zhong told police ahead of his arrest he did not have a motive to kill his business partner, as she had taken a significant amount of money he’d be unable to get it back. The Crown’s case is that the Auckland woman’s ‘‘embittered’’ business partner, Fang Sun, entered her Sunnyhills home some time after 3am on November 28, 2020, and attacked her, stabbing her multiple times before putting her body in a suitcase and placing it in the boot of her car. Sun denies the killing, saying someone else is responsible. Yesterday, the jury in the High Court at Auckland heard there were two handdrawn sketches found at Sun’s house after a police search in December 2020. Those sketches were found in Sun’s home, about a kilometre away from Zhong’s house. They appear to be a roughly drawn floor plan.
