Devoid of fairness

Earlier this week a protest at the measly offer of 70c an hour by the Government to care and support workers was held.

The Government considers it acceptable to tie these workers for 18 months into a 3% pay increase. These same workers are also expected to use their own vehicles to travel to and from clients at a rate far below what Inland Revenue pays for government employees when they use their private vehicles. Petrol has increased by a third but that is just tough luck for these workers.

These same workers have young families to support and the increase in the OCR is a further kick in the guts by a Labour Party that claims to represent workers.

I consider it illogical and devoid of any pretence of fairness when low-paid workers are being targeted by this Government. These families are not the cause of inflation but are merely trying to survive in a harsh financial environment.

Why does it have to be mortgages that are targeted? What about taxing those wealthy enough to have overseas trips or buy expensive vehicles or other luxury goods?

By the way, National’s Christopher Luxon has stated he would have also increased the OCR.
