Ioane sparks Otago

One-test All Black Josh Ioane celebrated his 50th NPC game in style, scoring a wonderful try to lead Otago to an 18-13 win over Hawke’s Bay at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin last night. The Otago fullback ran at the defensive line and fooled Hawke’s Bay prop Mark Braidwood with a dummy pass before stepping inside first-five Caleb Makene to score under the posts in the 33rd minute. Ioane’s try pushed the hosts into the lead after Hawke’s Bay hooker Tyrone Thompson opened the scoring from a lineout drive after just 16 minutes. A late penalty from Harry Godfrey salvaged a losing bonus point for Hawke’s Bay.
