Xi abandons zero-Covid target after protests

China’s national health commission has announced the lifting of its most severe coronavirus prevention measures, a week after rare protests erupted in a population frustrated by three years of strict zero-Covid policies. The announcement stipulated that Covid-19 tests and health-code checks would no longer be required in many circumstances, and those with mild symptoms would be able to isolate at home.
