Warner rejects hearing

David Warner has made the bombshell decision to withdraw his application to challenge his lifetime leadership ban from Australian cricket, to avoid a public hearing on the events surrounding the Newlands scandal in 2018. In a lengthy description of backroom arguments, Warner explained how he had elected to withdraw on the basis that the ‘‘irregular’’ Cricket Australia process had been and would be traumatic for his family. In essence, the preference of the review panel for a public hearing that would see the events of 2018 revisited – despite the preference of CA that the hearing also be private – has led to Warner’s angry and frustrated exit from the process. ‘‘I am not prepared for my family to be the washing machine for cricket’s dirty laundry. My family is more important to me than cricket,’’ Warner said. Cricket Australia has been contacted for comment.
