A community picnic

ichael Clements sent in this photo of a picnic thrown by the Wellington Jewish Social Club in Maidstone Park in . ichael s mother, ella Tossman, was about when the photo was taken (she is in the middle row with the orange arrow pointing toward her). Three along to the left is his Aunty Annie (with the lace collar), pictured next to Maurice Bassin ,who she later married.

This is a Zak photo taken by Joseph Zachariah ( ), a photographer who was well known in Wellington at the time. The photos were sold by Zak out of his photo shop on the eastern side of Willis St (near the then mpire otel.)

The Picture Postcards were shown in his store window for all to see, usually the day after they were taken.

Khandallah historian William ain spent years producing a book on the life and times of Joseph Zachariah, and recently donated Edwardian Wellington, photographs by Joseph Zachariah ( Exposures ) to The ew Zealand Jewish Archives, which is situated in The Jewish Community Centre, Webb St.
