Nurses call off pay protest

Canterbury nurses have called off a lunchtime protest after being assured they would receive promised pay rises and back pay before Christmas. The nurses had previously been told that unlike other parts of the country, agreed changes to their pay grades, rates and back pay would not be settled until mid-to-late February. The delay had been blamed on the size of Canterbury District Health Board’s nursing workforce and other complexities.
