Yes, the phone is great for that group selfie, and you need to photograph the meal or it didn’t happen, right? But having a catchup with friends when there are five phones on the table and everyone is texting at the same time as talking, can mean our real-life interactions are less meaningful.

There is evidence to prove that, too. A study of American millennials found people felt worse and less connected when they mixed face-to-face with digital socialising, compared to when they focused on socialising in person.

Try making an agreement with your friends to keep phones in bags or pockets to concentrate on really connecting and listening to each other.
