BOND GIRL BEAUTY

Harriet Pudney gets her glam on

Ilike to keep it pretty practical in this column. Here’s a fake tan that won’t streak if you dare to breathe while it’s drying; try this concealer if you are sick of yours falling into the creases under your eyes.

When it comes to my own beauty routine, I like to put in minimum effort for maximum results. I hate to waste my money or time, much less yours if you are following my advice.

That doesn’t mean, though, that there isn’t room for a bit of fantasy. I have just seen Daniel Craig’s last Bond outing, No Time To Die, and while I found it pretty average as a film, there is a lot to love in style. I have been frantically Googling for Lea Seydoux’s knit midi dresses, and grabbed my boyfriend’s arm when I recognised her red floral 1940s number from French brand, Rouje. The woman made me want white jeans. This is a serious situation.

While Seydoux looks sensational throughout, the most glamorous moment in the film comes via Ana de Armas. The Cuban star is in the movie for about 10 minutes, which is disappointing, but she makes them count.

In an impossibly slinky Michael Lo Sordo gown (retail version, Bond 007 Paloma maxi dress black, $1850, michaellosordo.com) and Chopard diamonds, de Armas is an immediate archetypal Bond woman, except unlike many of her predecessors, she is heavily armed.

Her sequence, as character Paloma, is a lot of fun, and will probably be totally absorbing for anyone who isn’t me, and won’t spend the whole time wondering what the deep, demi-matte ruby red lip colour is that she is wearing. Neither de Armas, the on-set photographer, nor the official

007 account have tagged any makeup artists in Instagram posts. I have looked up the whole makeup team on IMDB, but none of them have public accounts. Vogue has details of her premiere look, but nothing from the film itself. I’m left to guess: could it be Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint,

$44, sephora.nz? Could it be MAC Russian Red mattle lipstick, $35, maccosmetics.co.nz? Either is possible, but I have a feeling they go a bit more classic at Pinewood Studios, where much of the movie was filmed.

It has to be from a heritage brand. Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Matte Sculpting Lipstick in Fearless, $62, sephora.nz, is my best guess but, really, if this look appeals to you, any of the shades mentioned will get you pretty close. Firearms not included.
