Waimate features on Kaylee Bell’s lockdown album

A song with a nod to her hometown of Waimate is one of Kaylee Bell’s favourite singles on her latest album.

Home is one of the country musician’s tracks on her Silver Linings album released yesterday.

‘‘It’s about where I am from and the video of it was filmed in South Canterbury.’’

Her other favourite track is titled, Be With You, which she describes as having an ‘‘Alanis Morissette rock vibe’’.

For the Auckland-based musician – the most streamed female country artist in Australasia with more than 30 million Spotify streams – it is the feel of the song rather than the lyrics that appeal to her.

The new album has been a lockdown project which she said sums up the past few years. ‘‘You have to dig deep to look for positives.’’

From start to finish Silver Linings, which is also the title of one of the tracks, took 18 months. The album was produced with input from a number of musicians and producers.

‘‘I am so excited to create a package of songs all written and produced through this pandemic that I can now share with fans, and it is an honour to have some of my friends work with me to create this project.

‘‘I have been on an incredible journey the last five years with my music reaching fans around the globe, and I just want to keep growing that and bring people on this journey of music and life with me.’’

In September, Bell’s face adorned a massive billboard in New York’s Times Square, representing New Zealand/ Australian artists as the face of EQUAL Global Music Programme.

Bell is looking forward to supporting American country music singer Brad Paisley in Auckland next year and writing more songs.
