Three Waters

The nine district council mayors selected by the Government to settle the issues of how the proposed four new water identities will be run will obviously not be any of the mayors of the district councils who have strenuously voted against the proposal, and now those selected will be joined by nine Mā ori representatives.

These representatives include Ngā ti Whā tua, Te Arawa and Ngā ti Kahungunu.

Three district councils, including the Timaru District Council, are asking the High Court whether they will be entitled to full and fair compensation for their water infrastructure, when it transfers to publicly owned entities. To date, a reply from the High Court has yet to be reported.

Also, could it be explained why it should be necessary for any iwi representatives to have an input in the deliberations more than any other groups of citizens in New Zealand? D H Darling Timaru
