$1 million upgrade

A $1.07 million upgrade to the fire-damaged Fairfield Hall in Hamilton will make the facility a safer, modern, multi-functional space for the community. Parts of the building have been unusable since it was deliberately set alight in 2019. The redesign of the hall will include moving the public toilets to the park side of the building; and converting the changing rooms to community spaces. The project will be funded from the Hamilton City Council’s 2018-28 Long-Term Plan and fire damage insurance. Last week the council’s community committee approved the first step of a legal reclassification process to enable a change of primary use of the building to become home to Te Whare o te Ata Fairfield/Chartwell Community Centre Trust.
