Labour ahead in poll

The first TV poll of the year has Labour ahead but Christopher Luxon on the rise. The TVNZ/Kantar poll had Labour on 40 per cent support, National on 32 per cent, ACT on 11 per cent, and the Greens on 9 per cent. The last TVNZ poll dated from November, before Luxon took over as leader of the National Party, and had National at 28 per cent and ACT on 14 per cent. On the new poll’s numbers, Labour would win 51 seats – not enough to govern alone, as it is currently doing. It would be able to form a coalition with its traditional ally the Green Party, however, which would win 12 seats.
